On Grizzly Man

My initial impression of Grizzly Man, was that he was insane, and not coherent with what is safe or natural. However, when closely analyzing the documentary I began to see the beauty in is insanity and the authenticity of his love for the animals. Treadwell is an interesting character no doubt, and it’s easy to see how he is criticized by many people, but it’s also easy to see that whether or not you agreed with what he was doing, it was certainly monumental in the aspect of nature. Because he was there for so long, we can’t overlook what he achieved and how he achieved it, not only his courage, although some may say it was shear carelessness. His perception in my point of view, was warped when it came to wilderness and nature. I feel this way because not only was convinced that the animals had a human like relationship with him, but also he didn’t seem to get the concept of the circle of life. The food chain and it’s natural ways of organizing and preserving a natural balance by simply applying the ways of natural selection didn’t coexist with what he seemed to have though the wild was. I feel that Herzog approaches nature in a more realistic manor, respecting and loving animals, but realizing that they are in fact dangerous. He recognizes they are in the wild and can do unpredictable things despite the relationship you may feel you have with them.
