Animals/Ethics

There are obvious differences between humans and animals, but it is difficult to say that humans deserves life more than animals. Animals think and feel happiness and pain. Millions of people around the world house adopt animals as pets, and love them unconditionally. But so many animals are abused, harmed, and numerous killed for man's desire. The skin of a animal to make a purse, or a jacket. The food industry brutally murders countless animals every single day. Yes, animals do not have the ability to stand up for themselves, but that does not give humans the right to take advantage, to abuse and torture. More animals need to be treated with respect and love. The food industry needs to change how it takes care of animals, and all over people need to contribute money to help the innocent that cannot help themselves.

Collen, I agree that no animal deserves to be abused or turned onto a purse, however I wonder if you consider animal testing as abuse. On another note in chapter 1, Tom Regan illustrates in the life boat situation that while an animal's life has value, the life of a human will automatically have more value. I support animal rights activist in their fight to stop animal abuse but I believe that a human life deserves more value than that of a non-human animal.
