Human/Non-Human Animals
In my opinion the characteristic that distinguishes human animals from non-human animals is their capacity for varying interactions, or intelligence, according to the world around that animal. An animal that can be attributed with different social personality traits is an animal that can be assigned with moral rights. When an animal can act socially for good or bad past its instincts of being territorial, or mating calls its has enough intelligence for moral agency.
