Human/Non-Human Animals
I believe humans can be distinguished from non-human animals on the basis of our ability to pass moral judgment. Non-human animals can not choose right from wrong, or even articulate that that choice exists. One may argue that small children or the mentally handicapped who can not decipher morality, based on my argument, should be classified as non-human animals. I combat this with the belief that these groups of people are offspring of, and have the potential abilities of, a human who is able to pass moral judgement and therefore should not be classified as a non-human animal. A bird, from time of birth, to the time of its demise will never have the opportunity, or ability to pass moral judgement.
